Ayni Woven Tapestry - Cusco

This small tapestry is made from sheep wool, vegetable dyes and cochineal.  Handwoven by master weaver Alfredo Jayo in Ayacucho, Peru.  Ayacucho has been known for its fine textiles for thousands of years and is still a haven for textile enthusiasts today. This fine textile is one of a kind. Ayni, Quechua word for mutual aid is a small non-profit organization that aims to preserve cultural patrimony in Peru and promote social welfare in Andean communities through sponsorship of cultural programs, and through sales of Peruvian art and crafts.
