Dumbarton Oaks Roman Pin/Pendent

The original pendant long attracted attention because of its “baroque” qualities---dynamic design and curvilinear contours.  Recent research has determined that these stylistic qualities find comparisons to representations of jewelry in paintings and statuary from the 2nd-early 3rd Century C.E.  Our brooch is made of base metal with a gold finish, freshwater pearls, and cold enamel.  The brooch includes a necklace loop.
