Frogs were likely mythic figures in South America. For many ancient Americas cultures, frogs, like other amphibians, had a dual symbolism of fertility and death. They were associated both with the underworld from which they emerge and water in which they live. In the ancient Tairona culture of Colombia, they create both ornate, as well as abstract minimalist images such as these little frogs.
Made in Colombia using the lost wax production methods. Brass, with a layer of silver, then gold plated.
