Soma Necklace with Crocheted Beads

Large and small beads that are individually crocheted, come together for a colorful unique look.  The necklace is hand- crafted by village women of Sagalassos, in southwestern Turkey.   The region is one of Turkey’s best preserved archaeological sites.   Anatolian Artisans organized the first “Sagasun Arts” workshop, named to honor both the site and the village, was held in October 2018 and involved a group of 20 local women. Experienced international craft designers trained them to develop products reflecting the site and area culture.

Anatolian Artisans is a non-profit organization that empowers low-income artisans of Turkey by celebrating the connection between culture and development.  They provide sustainable economic benefits to low-income artisans through product development, marketing, and training.
